The M60 was designed and developed as the successor of the famous M47 and M48 Patton series, and was first introduced into the US Army in the early 1960s. The M60 became the most important MBT owned by the US Army during the Cold War. Fifteen-thousand units were produced through 1983 by the Chrysler company and it was adopted, in several variations, by the armed forces of numerous countries.
