In 1958, Israel was equipped with aging, rearmed M50-51 Shermans and light AMX-13s, but lacked modern MBTs. The British government provided about 390 total secondhand Centurion Mark III and Vs, which were quickly modified to local specifications and earned the title “Sho’t.”
