This is an injection-plastic military vehicle model kit.
This kit is the answer to the complaints from modelers about the completed/painted Dragon Armor series — because the modellers have no work to do with those high quality models! Dragon has now begun releasing the kit versions of their popular 1/72 armor models, in the process opening a whole new level of modelling standards in this scale. The molds are incredibly fine for large 1/35 scale kits. This model is an odd member of the Tiger Family from the 508th Heavy Tank Battalion in Italy. This so-called “Bergetiger” was converted by the battalion’s maintainance unit. Unfortunately, the one famous photo had been taken with the truck with 3-ton crane behind it. Amazingly the boom of the crane was superimposed over the tank’s demolition projector tube only by chance. So the name of the “Recovery Tiger” was mistakenly given to it due to the crane and this story being widely believed for a long time. Recently in the unit history of 508th Heavy Tank Battalion, this special tank was recognized as a Tiger equipped with a line charge projector, for mine cleaning. But beliefs are not changed easily! Sadly, the kit comes with the crane head parts — although this is not a bad kit. You will be amazed when you see that the complicated road wheels are composed in one stack with only two plastic parts. Another new feature is the single molded sprocket wheel! How did Dragon make these? The Zimmerit coating is molded on the hull and turret sides. Exhaust pipe covers made of pressed brass are included, too. The innovation never stops!
