The Soviet Army, which was alarmed by the appearance of the German Tiger I tank in World War II, thoroughly investigated captured examples to help improve their own tanks. The main battle tank T-34’s 76.2mm gun was not powerful enough, and they concluded that the 55-caliber 85mm anti-aircraft gun is barely able to counter the Tiger I’s armaments. Based on this information, they proceeded with the development of a powerful 85mm tank gun. When the 85mm gun was ready for action, it was combined with a large turret that could accommodate three people (the commander, gunner and loader), and production of the new T-34/85 began in 1944. More than 18,000 of this vehicle were produced by the end of the war in 1945, and due to continued production, the total number of this tank exceeded 25,000. In the Korean War, it was used as the main battle tank in the Chinese People’s Volunteer Corps that supported North Korea.

This fully assembled 1/72-scale model reproduces the T-34 main battle tank equipped with an 85mm gun of the Chinese People’s Volunteers during the Korean War. Details such as the cupola are carefully expressed, including the powerful appearance of the long-barrelled 85mm cannon. The external fuel tank and spare track attached to the tank’s hull are also reproduced. Uniquely designed rolling wheels on the lower part of the hull are accurately reproduced as well.
