The Kubelwagen was a German military vehicle that was active during World War II. It was developed based on the Volkswagen; an air-cooled horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder 985cc engine was mounted on the rear of its lightweight monocoque body. It was equipped with a four-wheel independent suspension using a torsion bar. Due to its lightweight body, it demonstrated excellent driving performance running on rough terrain, even with two-wheel drive. Over 50,000 were produced by the end of the war; it continued to play an active role in each unit and each front. It was notable for being dispatched to the German-African Corps in North Africa, where it was remodeled to African specifications, such as low-pressure balloon tires to prevent it from being buried in the sand.

This kit from Dragon reproduces the Kubelwagen operated by the German-African Corps. Its ribbed body is realistically modeled, as are the balloon tires.
