The Sd.Kfz.167 IV assault gun is an assault gun using the body of the Panzer IV, which was developed by Krupp in February 1943. The already deployed Sturmgeschutz III demonstrated excellent combat capability in decisive battles in the latter half of the war, and the increasing demand for assault guns from the front also supported its development. In addition, in 1943, an Allied air raid damaged the production plant for the III assault gun, so production had to be stopped. The initial type is equipped with the battle room of the III assault gun G type mounted to the chassis of the IV tank H type. Mass production began with modifications to clear the gaps and steps due to the difference in the hull and the cockpit part as well. Production began in December 1943, and about 1,100 were produced until April 1945. Also, at the end of World War II, the German Army was wary of magnetic land mines. As a countermeasure, a special coating was applied to the surface of the vehicle. The coating was formalized in 1943, and some were produced in the factory.

This model kit from Dragon reproduces the German Army’s IV assault gun that was active in World War II. Its low, sharp style and details are fully expressed; this kit includes parts to build two different types. One is a normal type, and the other includes Zimmerit coating to prevent magnetic land mines; the kit can be built as either one. Since the coating of the IV assault gun covered the entire surface of the vehicle, two types of parts are included: the upper and lower parts of the hull, plus the front and rear. The coating expresses the detailed pattern perfectly. The upper and lower hulls are slide-molded for accuracy, and the commander’s hatch, driver’s hatch, and engine hatch can be opened and closed.
