The German Panther tank is often mentioned as one of the best AFVs of WWII, combining excellent mobility, protection, and firepower all in one mechanically reliable package (the later models, anyway!). The Panther F with its “schmalturm” and steel road wheels was one planned improvement of the type, but it never got past the prototype stage before the end of the war.
