The L-ATV (Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle), a 4×4-wheel-drive multi-purpose military vehicle developed by the American Oshkosh Corporation, was launched in 2015 as the JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle). It was adopted in 2015. About 49,000 L-ATVs are planned for the U.S. Army from 2019 to 2040, and 5,500 for the U.S. Marine Corps from 2020 to 2022. The M1278 is based on the general-purpose JLTV-GP, and is an advanced version equipped with the RWS (Remote Weapon System or Remote Weapon Station) such as the M153.
