Cope Cage Armor

Starting around 2021, Russian tanks began to be equipped with lattice armor (slat armor) on the top of their turrets. This additional armor, which looks like a metal umbrella, is referred to as “Cope Cage Armor” or “Birdcage Armor.”

Initially, this armor was thought to be designed to counter top attack weapons like Javelin missiles. However, it has proven to be less effective against anti-tank missile attacks than anticipated.

Later on, Israeli tanks also began to use this birdcage armor, but in their case, it is intended to defend against drone attacks rather than top attacks.
