- Kubelwagen Type 82 and the Eastern Front
The Kubelwagen Type 82 was developed to take advantage of the lightweight and low-center-of-gravity features of the Volkswagen Type 1. Its rear-engine design also allowed it to traverse the muddy roads of the Eastern Front.
The engine is air-cooled, eliminating the need for coolant and a radiator, which was beneficial in the freezing conditions of the Eastern Front, where antifreeze was not required.
