During World War II, in approximately January 1944, a controlled chassis plan was promoted in Germany to standardize tank parts, and inclined armor was adopted by combining the starting wheels of the Panzer III and the engine of the Panzer IV. Prototypes of controlled Panzer III/IV tanks equipped with the Panzer IV turret on the body were constructed, but development was discontinued by July of that year.
