During World War II, the German Army developed various self-propelled units with on-board artillery with an eye toward improving mobility. The Sd.Kfz.251/22 is a semi-tracked armored personnel carrier based on the Sd.Kfz.251 D type; it was equipped with a 7.5cm PaK40 anti-tank gun (considered as a masterpiece weapon) and made into a self-propelled gun. The Sd.Kfz.251 has many variations that utilized its high-performance half-track body, but this was the last to be produced among the 251 series of vehicles.
