“BT” is an acronym for the Russian phrase meaning “fast tank;” the BT-7 uses the Christie suspension developed by the American J. Walter Christie. The BT-7 was developed to support cavalry units and long-range invasion, and is the final model of the BT series. Other BT-series tanks were used as flame tanks, short-range support tanks and command tanks; other versions of the BT-7 included trackless wheel types, chemical tanks, amphibious tanks and bridge-laying tanks.
